What does acculturation mean? How did new immigrants put this idea into practice in their lives?

Acculturation means that a minority (smaller) culture can be changed with contact with another dominant culture. New immigrants put this idea into practice because they would come to the U.S. and "forget" about their actual culture and practice the new one, simply because it was the "right thing" to do.
