hour hands:
the hour hand is located at position 0.
 minute hands:

the minute hand is located in position 6.
The angle of each position of the watch is:
 360 * (1/12) = 30
The difference of position between the hands is:
 6-0 = 6
Therefore the angle between hands is:
 (6) * (30) = 180 degrees:
 Answer:

there are 180 degrees in the smaller angle formed by the minute and hour hands on a clock at 12:30
