This small farm clearing are called frontiers. Which was during the westward expansion that lasted for almost 300 years. One of the driving factors of this westward movement was the manifest destiny. The belief that it was their duty to expand the northern Americas as well as the economic opportunities. Those who started these movement were called the pioneers.
