What role did the federalist play in the debate over the constitution?

I would say that it helped convince the population of the strength of the new constitution.
The Federalists wanted a strong and unified nation, and they believed the Constitution would give them just that. This is why they promoted the document as something desirable to have, which would strengthen the country and make everyone's lives better.
