In contrast to prokaryotic cells, eukaryotic cells are highly organized. Bacteria andarchaea are prokaryotes, while all other living organisms — protists, plants, animals and fungi — are eukaryotes. Many diverse organisms including algae, amoebas, ciliates (such as paramecium) fit the general moniker of protist.
