Abscisic acid (ABA) is produced in the leaves of the plants that are under water stressed condition. It causes the stomata to close.

When abscisic acid triggers to close the stomata, the turgor pressure decreases or almost lost. When the turgor pressure increases the stomata opens. Thus, abscisic acid acts as a preventive mechanism to protect plants from water loss.
