Why is euthanasia such a controversial issue?

Euthanasia is essentially killing people (who want and/or need it for some reason).

It is controversial because people fear it might be overused: for example by families who no longer want to care care of some ailing relative, or by people who take care of people who can't express their wishes (e.g. comatose patients).
