Latidude refers to where in the relation to North-South direction a given place is. So anything with a northern latitude is in the northern hemisphere and everything with a southern Latitude is in the southern hemisphere. The maximum number of degrees is 90: so 90 degrees North is the North Pole and 90 degrees South is the South Pole.
