Metropolitan areas are made up of a densely populated urban core and it's less-populated surrounding territories. These are both made up of industry, infrastructure and housing. A metropolitan area usually compromises many different things, such as municipalities, neighborhoods, counties and districts. Over the years, metropolitan areas have become important economic and political regions.
