smithfield and other slaughterhouses only hire the poor, minorities, and immigrants because: Cheap labor and those are the workers who won't complain about plant conditions or the treatment of the animals. They know they face the threat of loss of job and deportation. All of the conditions make the workers obey even though they felt they've been treated unfairly.
