[tex](8x+6)-(x+4) [/tex]

lets just focus on the side of the equation after the negative for now..

first, distribute the negative...

[tex]-(x+4) \\ -x-4[/tex]

now lets add this back to the original...

[tex]8x+6 - x -4[/tex]

add like terms...

[tex]7x+2[/tex]

and there we have it fully simplified!
