- In July 1673 the Dutch took revenge and its fleet recaptured New York and held it, until it was restored to the English by the treaty of Westminster in February 1674.
American Revolutionary War
- After the Westminster treaty, the British controlled New York until the end of the American revolutionary war (1783).
