You would multiply -2 by 11 and get -22.  Next your equation would equal to -22+9y=5.  You simply subtract -22 from both sides, which basically means you're adding 22.  Next your equation would be 9y=27.  All that is left to do is divide both sides by 9, and you get that y is equal to 3.
