Beowulf is the shortest, at 3000 lines. In contrast, Paradise Lost is over 10,000 lines and The Iliad is 15,693 lines. The poem should be long enough to tell an important story of the people of the same language. There should be characters that exists as representatives of a nation’s unique contribution to humans. There should be blood - or the risk of blood….not just feelings and talking to one’s self.
