Multiply so that the numbers under the lines are the same:
9/12 - 4/12 ---> 5/12
You cannot make it any smaller. So it stays like that

The answer is 5/12 because 3/4 u multiply numerator and denominator by 3 and u get 9/12 1/3 u get 4/12 because u add both denomator and numerator multiply by 3 and 9/12-4/12 is 5/12
