Why did the United States abandon its neutrality, choosing to enter World War I on the side of the Allies?

German U-boats kept attacking American boats which caused the U.S to have hostility towards the Central powers. The Allies also owed them money so it would be more beneficial to aid them to win the war so that they could pat back their debt.
