What is the difference between the main idea of a passage and a summary of the passage?

Answer:

The main idea is usually only one sentence and it sums up the supporting details of the whole passage,whereas the summary includes events from throughout the entire passage and does not really provide many details. Also the summary should be about a paragraph long and all of the main points should be written in your own words. Hope this helps! :)
