“William hershel beloved that the caps were water ice, like those on earth” and “ The behavior of the polar caps on Mars seem to match the models for carbon dioxide polar caps”. So basically they believed that the polar caps on mars and earth were both water ice and their study’s showed that they behaved the same way in both places
