Lenders make money by adding interest on the amount they loan to the people who "borrow" their money. Interest can range (legally) from 6% to 36%... which is a lot!

Explanation:

If lenders didn't put interest they would just be GIVING away their money and hoping that they get payed back in however many years it takes.
