Human activity such as irrigation, deforestation can make natural disasters more frequent and severe when they happen.

Irrigation for example, while it increases food security changes the course of water bodies as well as the structure of the soil. This increases the risk of flooding during heavy rains. Deforestation can contribute to this by increasing the amount of soil particles in drainage canals, thereby making flooding worse. Also, deforestation on slopes can be responsible for mass wasting.
