Bacteriophage is  basically a type of virus. It affects the bacteria.  Bacteriophages attache them-slaves to a susceptible bacterium and infect the host cell. To infect the bacteria, generally bacteriophages employ a tail that pierce the membrane of the bacterium and help to pass through the genetic material of the virus. It transfers their DNA into the genome of the host cell.
