(t + t + 2) / 2 = x

(2t + 2) / 2 = x

x = t + 1

(t + t - 2)/ 2 = y

y = t - 1

So the average of x and y

= (x + y) / 2 =   ( t + 1 + t - 1) / 2

= 2y / 2

= t.
