There was a promise between Abraham & God, the covenant. The Israelites were slaves in Egypt for generations & they wanted to return to Canaan & the freedom.

Because Israelites/Jews think that GOD would what HE had promised to Mosa{A.S.}[Commonly known as Moses] what he said he do which was to take them to promise land
