Why is death by predators more natural or "right" than death by starvation?

I think its because of the food chain. It makes more sense for death by predators because, an animal to be extinct doesn't just take a few hours for the whole entire animal group. So, the food chain makes more sense than starvation, because there is a lot of animals in just one animal group.
