For proportions and to find x we have to cross multiply
8 × (x) = 3 × 2.4

8x = 7.2
Divide by 8 to isolate x

[tex] \frac{8x}{8} = \frac{7.2}{8} [/tex]
8 and 8 cancels out

x = 0.9

you have to cross multiply to get x on its own
1) Multiply everything by 2.4 
[tex]x= \frac{3 X 2.4}{8} [/tex]
2) Then simplify the fraction
 [tex]x= \frac{7.2}{8} [/tex]
3) You can either leave the answer as a fraction or you put it as a decimal
x=0.9
