The vertex of the parabola [tex]y=ax^2+bx+c[/tex] has the coordinates:

  • [tex]x_v=-\dfrac{b}{2a};[/tex]
  • [tex]y_v=ax_v^2+bx_v+c.[/tex]

Therfore, the vertex of the parabola [tex]y=x^2+6x+2[/tex] has coordinates

[tex]x_v=-\dfrac{6}{2}=-3[/tex]

and

[tex]y_v=(-3)^2+6\cdot (-3)+2=9-18+2=-7.[/tex]

Answer: (-3,-7)
