-4(7a+5)=-160

-28a-20=-160   multiply through by -4

-28a=-160+20  add 20 to both sides

-28a=-140    

a=-140/-28  divide both sides by -28

a= 5

you distribute -4 into 7a+5 making it -28a-20=-160 add 20 on both sides -160+20=-140 then divide -28 to -140 making a=5
